2011 Eau Claire Community Forums
In a very fundamental sense, local democracy begins with the conversations that citizens have about the common good and the choices they make about the kind of community they want. For the past several years the City has hosted a series of Spring community forums as a way of creating the public spaces where Eau Claire residents can have conversations about their community.
In 2011 we will be holding the following community forums:
- April 14 – District 5 Forum at Community Table, 320 Putnam Street
- April 28 – District 1 Forum at Hope Lutheran Church, 2226 Eddy Lane
- May 5 – District 2 Forum at Gateway Church, 3445 Gateway Drive
- May 12 – District 3 Forum at the L.E.Phillips Memorial Library,400 Eau Claire Street
- May 26 – District 4 Forum at First Congregational Church, 310 Broadway
Each forum is scheduled for 6:30-8:30pm and will include a brief PowerPoint presentation about:
- City government operations
- 2011 community projects and activities
- 2011 district projects
- Overview of the adopted 2011 City budget
- Potential 2012 fiscal and public service challenges
The main focus of each forum will be small group discussions about building community and neighborhood priorities and concerns.
This year’s forums reflect the continuing effort of the City’s Fiscal Policy Advisory Committee to expand opportunities for Eau Claire residents to discuss and comment on issues related to public services and the future of the Eau Claire community. Citizens also have an opportunity to comment on City fiscal and budget issues at the beginning of each City Council Monday evening meeting, as well as post comments on the City’s Facebook page. The City’s adopted 2011 Program of Services provides detailed information about City revenues and expenditures, City operations, and 2011 projects.
